Heartless is promoted as a medical thriller is a first attempt of well-known anchor, actor turned politician Shekhar Suman and as a director he has proven his worth. The story is a combination of romance, suspense and a thriller .It is the first attempt of its director who had explored a total new genre for Bollywood is a good effort. On one hand where we see lots of Bollywood movies about rowdy police officers, stuffed item number, super toned heroes, Heartless looks different as its gives a heart-touching story of a mother-son relationship and introduces audiences with a new term known as “anesthesia awareness”. The concept is novel and Bollywood has rarely explored the dimension of medical thriller. The genre is new and for this its director deserves a good applause. There is no denying that this film borrows its similarities from a Hollywood film Awake which has given twist and turns that suits the audiences over here.
Story Idea: Heartless has Adhayayan Suman playing Aditya Sing, a superrich son of a billionaire mom Gaytri Devi played by Deepti Naval. Life takes a huge turn when he was diagnosed with a fatal heart condition and the only hope for this is heart transplantation. He falls in love with a pretty girl Riya(Ariana Ayam) and wants to give his life a second chance. The film takes another turn when in spite of his mother’s protest he allows his friend Sameer Sexena (Shekhar) to perform the operation instead of Dr. Trehan (Om Puri). Things start going wrong when suddenly in the middle of surgery Adita awakes throughout the rest of operation, the term is called anesthesia awareness, when a patient is not given enough anesthesias before surgery he is fully paralyzed but feels the pain.
Undeniably, on the whole Heartless is made with a lot of heart but it appears partly engaging. The first time director Shekhar Suman does a good job and taking a risk of new story with a new star cast. There is also a lot of mother and son drama over his romantic choice while son doesn’t approve his choice of surgeon. At the end it is realized “Maa, Maa hi hoti hai and she is always right.” In term of performances, Adhyayan Suman tries his best to fit the bill, the effort is admirable, but the result is not. The new comer Ariana Ayam is pretty but has not much to do. Shekar Suman tries to look too much younger but Deepti Naval has done full justice to her role. This movie is good enough as a medical thriller but its lead cast is not good enough to carry it on its shoulders. So better luck next time.
Music Review: The music isn’t anything to hum home about. The music is alright without any ambitions to excel.
